DANBURY — A man walks into a bar and says “ouch!” A giraffe walks into a bar and says “high balls on me.”

These jokes may not be very funny, but Andrew Kennedy certainly is. Audiences will have a chance to enjoy his humor when he headlines at The Palace Danbury on Saturday, February 23.

This Connecticut resident has made ‘em laugh at Lincoln Center, Gotham Comedy Club, Bravo, Telemundo, and the list goes on. His Comedy Central show was voted one of the network’s top twenty, and his appearance at the Montreal Comedy Festival led to offers from HBO and CBS for a television pilot about his life.

Born to a Colombian mother and British father, Andrew had already lived on three continents by the time he was 13 years old. Fluent in English and Spanish (and able to curse a blue streak in Cantonese), the bilingual comedian bridges cultural boundaries like few entertainers can.

A former Newtown resident, Kennedy covers the universal topics of parenthood, marriage, and family. A gifted storyteller with an uncanny ability to mimic accents and dialects, his clever commentary on society compares the differences in the cultures he has known and the people he has met. Never mean-spirited or condescending, his brand of stand-up is “old school” relatable, performed with brilliant comedic timing.

Backstage Magazine calls Kennedy a “Comedy Best Bet” and a “Standout Stand-Up Worth Watching.”

Opening the show will be Motts Pelazza. An actor and comedian from Stamford, Pelazza has been doing stand-up for more than 35 years. He has performed at Caroline’s, Catch a Rising Star, Don’t Tell Mama in NYC, and was a top finalist in New England’s Funniest Comic Competition. He’s also pretty well-known in New Canaan, where he delivers mail for the United States Postal Service.

Showtime for the Danbury Palace is 8 pm. Tickets are $30, reserved seating only.

Tickets may be purchased in advance by phone at 203-794-9944, online at thepalacedanbury.com, and at the box office starting one hour before showtime.

The theater is at 165 Main Street in Danbury. Free parking is readily available for theater patrons in the parking lot behind the building
