Yankee Maid Chorus Is Looking For Singers

TRUMBULL — The YankeeMaid Chorus of Sweet Adelines International is looking for women who love to sing and are looking for new challenges. Rehearsals are beginning for the YankeeMaids’ annual show, and any woman who can carry a tune is welcome to join them for the event. The show will take place on Saturday, April 12, at Norwalk Concert Hall.

Participants will have the experience of learning to sing four-part, a capella harmony in the barbershop style. They will learn several songs to be sung with the chorus, and they will be involved in every aspect of the preparations for the chorus’ show.

This year’s concert is entitled, “Life’s a Pitch! The Madness Behind the Music.” The original play is a hilarious look at what really goes on behind the scenes of a Sweet Adelines championship chorus.

Sweet Adelines International is a non-profit, worldwide organization of approximately 30,000 women singers committed to advancing the American musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance. The YankeeMaid Chorus, under the direction of Karen Sweeters of Norwalk, is ten-time champion of the Sweet Adelines’ North Atlantic Region #1 chorus competition.

The 100-plus members of the chorus come from all walks of life and from more than 30 towns throughout Fairfield, New Haven and lower Litchfield counties.

The YankeeMaid Chorus rehearses every Wednesday night beginning at 7:30 pm, at St Joseph’s Manor, 6448 Main Street,” Trumbull, CT. Call Teddi Tomsic at 203-925-9233 for more information on rehearsals, or visit www.YankeeMaid.org. For more information on Sweet Adelines International visit www.SweetAdelineIntl.org.
