Police report that they arrested a woman on a heroin possession charge at the police station on April 23, following an investigation in which they used their German shepherd to sniff for drug evidence.

Police said that mid-afternoon on April 23, they noticed that a woman who was sitting in the police station's lobby had the strong odor of burnt marijuana on her person.

The woman, Cortney Troccolla, age 28, told police that she had come to the police station with her boyfriend who had turned himself over to police on a pending arrest warrant, police said. Police provided Sandy Hook and Bridgewater addresses for Troccolla.

Police then accompanied the women to her vehicle, which was parked in the rear parking lot. Police said they had their dog sniff the air near the vehicle and the canine indicated that there were drugs inside the vehicle. After being placed in the auto, the dog indicated there was contraband inside a pocketbook there, police said.

Police said that in searching the pocketbook, they found 20 bags of heroin and some syringes. Police then arrested Troccolla on one count of possession of a controlled substance (heroin)  and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

After processing, police released Troccolla on $500 bail for a May 10 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

In a separate matter, Darren Thompson, 38, of Bridgewater, who is Troccolla's boyfriend, had surrendered to police on the pending warrant and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with an October 2015 incident in which Thompson was allegedly driving with a suspended license, police said.

After processing, police released Thompson on $750 bail for a May 6 court appearance.
