Vera Maria Troester, 87, of Sandy Hook, beloved wife of William Troester, died peacefully February 3. She was surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home.

She was born and raised in East Prussia, Germany. In March 1945, she and her family were able to flee on the last plane out before the Russian invasion. They settled in a small town in southern Germany, where she worked for the US Army Air Force Exchange Service as an accountant. In 1953, the family immigrated to the United States and she was able to continue her work for the Army Air Force in New York City.

She married Bill on May 14, 1955, and moved to Sandy Hook in 1962, where she resided for the duration of her life. Mrs Troester worked as a secretary and accountant for the Children's Adventure Center in Sandy Hook, and retired in 1993. She remained actively involved there by serving as a board member for many years. She enjoyed traveling, planting flowers in her beautiful gardens, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Her devoted husband; her sons Bill Troester of Oxford and Michael Troester, and his wife Sheryl, of New Milford; and her siblings Ingrid Tesch, and her husband Guenther, of St Petersburg, Fla., and Herman Rutner of Cambridge, Mass., survive Mrs Troester. She was a proud grandmother of Michael Troester, Jr, and his wife Shannon, of Newtown, Kristen Troester of Brookfield; Christopher Troester of New Britain; and Nicholas and Alyssa Troester of New Milford; and one great-grandson. Her sister, Christine Cardillo of Ellicott City, Md., predeceased Mrs Troester. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services took place February 9. Burial was in Three Saints Orthodox Catholic Cemetery in Seymour.
