For the two-week period from May 23 through June 5, town police will participate in the national traffic enforcement campaign known as "Click-It or Ticket," intended to have motorists and passengers comply with laws on the use of seatbelts.

Police said that as motorists take to the roads for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend, they should use their seatbelts as a safety measure.

The use of seatbelts reduces by about one-half serious crash-related injuries and deaths, according to the US Department of Transportation's National Highway Safety Administration.

Town police will be enforcing the seatbelt laws at all times of day as part of the project.
