Main Street residents Michael and Jennifer Guman announce the inaugural concert for a new series to be hosted in an antique barn on their property.

The Wool Hats will perform the first Flagpole Barn Concert on Friday, September 30. Doors will open at 6:30, and the performance will run from 7 to 9 pm, rain or shine.

The barn is at the corner of Main Street and Church Hill Road; use 1 Church Hill Road for GPS or Google Maps. Those planning to attend will need to park behind Edmond Town Hall, at 45 Main Street; or Newtown Savings Bank, 39 Main Street, and walk to the barn. The driveway for the barn is behind the Guman home, on Church Hill Road (first driveway east of Main Street).

Space inside the barn is limited; BYO seating for lawn seats.

Admission is free. Donations, according to Mr Guman, will be shared with Newtown Cultural Arts Commission/Random Acts of Music and Edmond Town Hall.

Hailing from a little cabin home off the lake in Monroe, The Wool Hats is a five piece string band consisting of Matt Chimini (vocals/rhythm guitar), Nick Krashefski (vocals/bass), Ryan Mooney (lead guitar), Erick Feucht (vocals/fiddle) and Johnny Lee (vocals/mandolin). Their style fuses bluegrass, newgrass, classic country, rock, blues, and other acoustic influences.

Organizers suggest guests take advantage of Newtown Restaurant Week and bring a take-out picnic (BYOB). A celebration of local and international cuisine, Newtown's Economic Development Commission is planning Restaurant Week for September 26-October 2.

The barn is a 19th Century post-and-beam carriage barn in the heart of the borough of Newtown, with a view of the historic Main Street flagpole. It was partially renovated in 2013 to shore up its foundation and exterior walls.

With its proximity to Edmond Town Hall Theatre, the barn has already played host to a number of internationally touring artists presented in the Live at ETH concert series.

The mission of the Gumans is to create a unique musical event space to encourage local appreciation and support for the arts in Newtown.
