We had a suggestion for a Good Egg Award this week. FAITH Food Pantry organizer Lee Paulsen called on Tuesday, shortly after that morning's donations session at FAITH, to ask that a special woman be recognized with the honor. "We have a young woman who visits us fairly regularly," said Lee, "and she comes in with more groceries than you can imagine." That morning, Lee added, the anonymous donor showed up at St John's Church with 35 bags of groceries. "She won't even give us her name," Lee said, "so this is what we would like to do in return, for all that she does to help people in Newtown." We agree. Sounds like someone is leading by example on how to be a very Good Egg.dodgingtownfire@gmail.com.www.newtownearthday.orgIt is always hard for me to believe that anyone thinks it's okay to toss paper cups, plastic containers, and bottles out the car window, but clearly it does happen. Coming to the rescue is the Lions Club, with its annual "Lose the Litter Day." It happens to coincide with the Newtown Earth Day celebration this Saturday, April 23, at Newtown Middle School. If you want to help "tackle trash," show up in the morning at the Lions Club booth and volunteers will happily provide you with bags, gloves, and everything else that is needed to make Newtown's roads clean again. Choose your own road to clean up, or let the Lions suggest one for you. The Lions Club will work out a way to get cleaning supplies to you if you can't do a litter walk on Saturday. For more information, call Glenn Nanavaty at 203-426-2116. Newtown Earth Day runs from 10 am to 4 pm. "When I was a high school senior we used his English and American poetry anthology for English class nearly every day," says Dottie. "It was a very heavy, three-inch-thick tome and I still have it. I can remember our English teacher saying, 'OK Class, time to get out your Untermeyers!' And we would all groan, of course. Who knew that nearly 60 years later I would live in the very town where he wrote that book?"www.dickmcevoypaintings.com.

It never surprises me to see deer, fox, coyotes, or even skunks and raccoons while I'm out enjoying the morning air. But how surprised was I to find two miniature ponies trotting down Ashford Lane one morning last week? The little scamps had become bored, it turns out, and figured out how to wedge their ways out of their corral. Since that was one of those very chilly mornings, I was relieved to see that at least they were wearing their jackets. I am also relieved to hear that Animal Control was able to track them down (lounging in an Ashford Lane backyard) and return them to their rightful home, safe and sound.

Which reminds me: Sunday is Poem In Your Pocket Day, an event touted by the Academy of American Poets since 2008. How do you celebrate Poem In Your Pocket Day? Write down your favorite poem and put it in - surprise! - your pocket. Then feel free to share it with someone (or many) throughout the day. If you are inspired, you can pen your own poem, tuck it in your pocket, and then share it with an appreciative audience. Would you consider tucking a love poem into someone else's pocket for them to find? There's a thought.

The Bee was "Omered" sometime Monday night, leaving a trail of posters depicting a playful raccoon, apparently named Omer. Turns out it was the work of the Newtown Middle School Odyssey of the Mind team, coached by Kristina Tataglia, one of three teams raising funds to send them to the national competition. "Omer" - the mascot of Odyssey of the Mind - moved on after spending a Tuesday amusing passersby. Good luck to all the Odyssey teams moving forward!
