Ann Guranovitz, 89, a resident of Bradenton, Fla. since 2010, and former Newtown resident, died peacefully in her sleep, November 8, at her home. She was born to Alexander and Mary Guranovitz in Bridgeport and lived there for more than 50 years before moving to Newtown in 1977.
Melkon Adams, 84, of Sandy Hook, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital, November 7. “Mel” or “Micky,” as he was known to his family, was born in New Britain, August 16, 1929, and lived all of his life in Connecticut.
George DeWitt Wight Ferris, Sr, 101, of Danbury, died November 8, at Danbury Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Phebe (Kellogg) Ferris. Mr Ferris was born in Newtown, July 2, 1912, son of Charles D. and Ophelia (Thornhill) Ferris, and was the last of the Ferris family to be home-birthed at the family homestead on Route 302.
Florence R. Smith, 89, of Southbury, beloved wife of the late Raymond Smith, died peacefully at Pope John Paul II Health Care Center, November 10. She was born in Lynn, Mass., daughter of Julian and Pearl (Wilson ) Reed.
Robert “Bob” J. Rosentel, 85, of Hudson, N.H., died November 6, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, N.H., surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 2, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of Martin and Elizabeth (Finn) Rosentel.
Rita Macmillan, 72, beloved wife of Gordon Macmillan, died suddenly at Hartford Hospital, November 4, surrounded by her loving family. Born April 25, 1941 in New York City, she moved to Newtown in 1972 where she lived for 34 years.
Anne Marie Zimmermann, 61, a nine-year resident of Gilford, N.H., died peacefully at home after a six-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her family and close friends in her final days. She was born in Port Chester, N.Y. and raised in Nanuet, N.Y.
Prior to moving to Gilford, Ms Zimmermann and her family lived for nearly 30 years in Newtown.
