More than 100 physicians from Newtown have decided to apply their informed and distinct perspectives about the very personal but also very public threat of gun violence to a campaign aptly titled United Physicians Of Newtown (UPON). The group most recently drew several dozen colleagues to an organizing and informational event at Edmond Town Hall.
In its annual review of Police Chief Michael Kehoe’s job performance, the five-member Police Commission has given the chief generally high marks for his work during 2012.
Police Commission members endorsed the chief’s performance review for calendar 2012 in early December, before the December 14 shooting incident occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

DANBURY— A dedicated group of teachers and support staff at Rogers Park Middle School, in conjunction with the Danbury Public schools, are hosting a very special 5K Walk/Run in honor of Sandy Hook educators and families. The event will feature 26 “Inspiration Stations” that will showcase messages of healing and hope for all participants.
Officials plan to use $200,000 in grant funds for a hazardous materials cleanup of Danbury Hall and the eight single family dwellings at Fairfield Hills — all of which are slated for demolition.The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cleanup grant process “is well underway,” announced Director of Economic and Community Development Elizabeth Stocker. “The clean up helps bring us a step closer to achieving the master plan,” she said. The grant requires $40,000 in matching funds and in-kind contributions from town departments involved in the project.
State police report that at about 6:30 am on March 14, while prisoner Jason James Desanzo, 23, of Plainville was being escorted from the high-security Garner Correctional Institution to a prisoner transport van, Desanzo spat on the chest of a 25-year-old male correction officer.
