To the Editor:

In the last few minutes of the NBC Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Monday night, November 19, was a guest named Blake Mycoskie. He is the founder of Tom’s Shoes, which sends a child somewhere in the world a free pair of sneakers for their bare feet with every Tom’s sneakers’ purchase. So far, he has given away over 86 million sneakers.

What moved me to send this letter to friends and family was that Mr Mycoskie announced that as a direct result of the massacres at the Borderline Bar in Thousand Oaks, Calif., and at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, he was donating $5 million to organizations with the mission to end gun violence across the country, the largest corporate contribution to date, encouraging other corporations to do the same or more.

Also, to pressure Congress to pass universal gun background checks, a postcard will be sent to your representative if you go to toms.com and fill in the information there.

I was so impressed that Jimmy Fallon did his submission on the show, in seconds. And 90 percent of Americans believe these checks should be done.

I could not wait to share this news with those I know, many of whom are through my membership at NYA in Newtown. Please share this with your family and friends.

Thank you.
