By 9 am Saturday, July 12, hundreds of people had gathered outside Reed Intermediate School awaiting the opening of the 39th Annual C.H. Booth Friends of the Library Book Sale. And when the doors opened, they all came pouring in, some with armsful of shopping bags, carts and storage bins to help carry the fruits of their visit.

It is turning into “a banner year,” said Friends of C.H. Booth Library Book Sale Volunteer Toni Earnshaw of the CD, DVD, and even sci-fi/mystery book sections of the upcoming book sale.
“Twice as many CDs as last year — 7,000 at last count” have been donated for this year’s fundraiser, which returns to the air-conditioned Reed Intermediate School for its 39th annual offering Saturday through Wednesday, July 12–16.

Photo bombs continue to be a very popular trend, and this week I spotted one of my own doing just that. Among the more than 120,000 books and other items that will be offered at the Friends of the C.H. Booth Library Annual Book Sale next month are hundreds of special, collectible and rare books.
Each year, donated books that catch the eyes of the volunteer sorters are culled and passed on to book expert John Renjilian, a Friends’ volunteer. Mr Renjilian determines the value of the books, and every year, he said, there are quality rare and collectible volumes donated.
