Preliminary designs for the new Sandy Hook School building’s playgrounds were presented by representatives of a design firm at the Tuesday, June 23, Public Building & Site Commission meeting.
The commission also heard a presentation on the artwork planned for the school during the meeting.
A number of meetings were held with a school playground committee, according to William Richter, a principal of Richter & Cegan of Avon, a landscape architecture and urban design firm.

The Board of Education approved on Tuesday, October 7, the fourth phase of the Sandy Hook School building construction project to be forwarded to the state.
Previously, at its September 16 meeting, the school board heard a presentation from Diversified Project Management’s Geralyn Hoerauf, Consigli Construction’s Aaron Krueger, and Svigals + Partners’ Julie McFadden, who each reported on the progress of the Sandy Hook School building project. Phase 4 of the project will focus on building construction.

Blues, greens, tans, and grays made up the primary colors of the proposed interior and exterior materials for use in the new Sandy Hook Elementary School that were presented to the Board of Education at its meeting September 16. The update came after the materials had already been presented to the Public Building & Site Commission.

About three dozen town residents listened, watched, and interacted with a large group of project and design professionals who are part of the Sandy Hook School design team during an information forum held June 5 in the lecture hall at Newtown High School.
