After making an announcement to employees, trustees, and corporators at a recent gathering, Newtown Savings Bank President and CEO John Trentacosta told The Newtown Bee this week the bank will close and relocate its Main Street retail branch to a new building at 30-32 Church Hill Road.
Mr Trentacosta said he expects the new building will be completed and ready for outfitting as a bank branch by late fall, with expected occupancy by spring 2016.

As with the spring flowers that emerge in April, construction projects often also start this time of year. Four notable examples of commercial construction projects that are starting, or are about to begin, can be found on Mt Pleasant Road, South Main Street, and Church Hill Road.
George Benson, town director of planning and land use, notes that the coming construction season promises to be a busy one with those projects commencing.

The developer of a planned major commercial project in the borough said this week his firm soon plans to start site work at the 30-32 Church Hill Road property where more than 60,000 square feet of enclosed retail/office space would be built.
Alan Weiner, president of Mesa General Contractors, Inc, of New Milford, said March 18 said that within the next month, the firm plans to start work at the property which formerly held Lexington Gardens, a plant nursery and gift shop which went out of business in January 2011.
