Legislative Council members have unanimously approved providing a property tax break to a firm which plans to construct a gas station/convenience store on Church Hill Road at its intersection with Edmond Road.

The site at 67 Church Hill Road formerly held a vacant Shell gas station/convenience store, which was long considered an eyesore and was recently demolished in preparation for the new construction.

As with the spring flowers that emerge in April, construction projects often also start this time of year. Four notable examples of commercial construction projects that are starting, or are about to begin, can be found on Mt Pleasant Road, South Main Street, and Church Hill Road.

George Benson, town director of planning and land use, notes that the coming construction season promises to be a busy one with those projects commencing.

  • P&Z Slates Hearings On Church Hill Road Gas Station Property Redevelopment

At an upcoming session, Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) members are scheduled to discuss the commercial redevelopment of 67 Church Hill Road with the proposed construction of a new gas station/convenience store there.

The P&Z meeting is slated for 7:30 pm on Thursday, March 20, at Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street.

The one-acre parcel on the western corner of Church Hill Road and Edmond Road currently holds a decaying structure that formerly was a Shell gas station/convenience store.
