After the tragic death of their 6-year-old son Dylan in the Sandy Hook School shooting, Nicole and Ian Hockley established Dylan’s Wings of Change, a foundation dedicated to the memory of Dylan that is committed to helping children with autism and other related conditions achieve their full potential.

Newtown High School senior Maggie Wruck and her date Kollin McDonald of Stony Brook, N.Y., decided on a Batman theme for the NHS Senior Prom, held this past Friday, April 25, at the Matrix Conference & Banquet Center in Danbury. Maggie donned these shoes, and I hear she customized them herself, hand gluing roughly 10,000 rhinestones all over them, including the Batman insignia. Kollin followed the theme, wearing a Batman bowtie and cufflinks.

The first charity Wingathlon will be held on Saturday, May 2, at the Fairfield Hills campus.
Participants may choose from a Family 5K Run/Walk or a competitive Duathlon (5K run/26K cycle/5K run) event around the scenic roads of greater Newtown. Register online at dylanswingsofchange.org.

Running under the names of Wing Nuts, A Wing and a Prayer, Wingin’ It, Winging It 4 D, and Shagnar, five teams of 12 runners each set out Friday morning, May 9, from Hull, Mass., on a 192-mile relay run to support Dylan’s Wings Of Change. They were among nearly 600 Ragnar Relay Cape Cod teams overall, racing for 30 hours to Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod, to raise money for favorite charities.

Looking for a couple of good causes to help? Among the local organizations hoping for support and a chance at an addition prize is the Chase Michael Anthony Kowalski Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation (CMAK). CMAK will compete for prize money up to $25,000 as part of Fairfield County Giving Day.
