  • Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper Still On Tonight

    Organizers of the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper at St John’s Episcopal Church says that despite this morning's weather, tonight's dinner will go on as planned.

    St John's will hold its 58th annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper from 5 to 7 pm.

    Members of the church will be serving all-you-can-eat dinners of pancakes, applesauce, and beverages. After a one year hiatus, Bruce Moulthrop’s home-style corned beef hash will return to the menu. Diners can opt for the hash or sausage as their side.

  • Pancake Supper For Shrove Tuesday

    St John’s Episcopal Church, 5 Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook, will hold its 58th annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on February 17.

    From 5 to 7 pm in the church hall, members of the church will be serving all-you-can-eat dinners of pancakes, applesauce, and beverages. After a one year hiatus, Bruce Moulthrop’s home-style corned beef hash will return to the menu. Diners can opt for the hash or sausage as their side.

    It seems that some childhood memories are too sweet to forget. Litta Alexander is reaching out in the hopes someone in Newtown can help her recreate a favorite dessert from her younger years. “I moved to Newtown in 1955, as a 5-year-old,” Litta writes to us. “We lived in Hawleyville, but the family shopped in Newtown. Our special treat was from Mrs Anderson’s Bakery. It was an iced loaf cake with cinnamon and cake/sweet bread-like consistency. I think they just called it coffee cake.

    St John's Episcopal Church Warden Bruce Moulthrop was at the church Monday afternoon, affixing a temporary event sign to the St John’s permanent church sign. The church will host its 57th Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on March 4.
