• COA Helping Seniors Enroll In Emergency Alert System

    Members of the Newtown Commission on Aging (COA) will be available to help senior residents enroll in CodeRED, Newtown’s emergency alert system, this month.

    COA members will be at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road, each Monday for the rest of November starting at 3 pm. The CodeRED system sends phone or e-mail messages to inform residents about emergencies.

  • Town Offices, Library Closing Wednesday At 12:30 (UPDATED)

    UPDATED Wednesday, November 26, 8:36 am: C.H. Booth Library Director Brenda McKinley has announced that the library will also close at 12:30 Wednesday.

    Newtown Director of Communications Maureen Will has issued a CodeRed notice that is being delivered to those who have registered for the service, alerting residents that town offices will be closing early on Wednesday, November 26.

  • Newtown CodeRED Message: 'Stay Home Until After The Storm'

    Newtown has issued its second CodeRED message of the current winter storm.

    Those who signed up for the notifications are receiving a message this morning from Newtown Director of Emergency Communications Maureen Will.

    "Following the governor's directive, we are also asking all non-essential personnel to stay home today," Ms Will said in the brief message. "Newtown Municipal Center will be closed today.

    "Stay home until after the storm has passed, and we will see you all tomorrow morning," she said.
