Tree Lighting

  • Sandy Hook Trees Cast Holiday Light

Wet streets glistened on Saturday, December 6, as a chilly rain soaked revelers at the annual Sandy Hook Village Holiday Tree Lighting. Dozens of umbrellas opened as small crowds gathered on sidewalks, counting down from 10 until the trees — one with green and white lights and the other strung with traditional rainbow lights — lit the night. Adding to Sandy Hook Center’s holiday appeal are newer lampposts wound with lights and strands of evergreen.

  • Many Helped To Light The Trees

    To the Editor:

We extend our thanks once again to the Chamber of Commerce, who for 30 years now has sponsored The Christmas Tree & Luminaria Lighting in The Ram  Pasture.

Thank you Parc & Rec  and  Highway Departments for our most beautiful trees ever!

  • Ram Pasture Tree Lighting Opens The Weekend

A crowd gathered around the larger tree at Ram Pasture on Friday, December 5, for the 30th Annual Ram Pasture Tree Lighting event.

  • Three Tree Lightings Planned For The Weekend

Trees at Ram Pasture, Sandy Hook Center, and in Hawleyville will be formally lit for the holidays this weekend.

Newtown’s oldest tree lighting celebration will open the weekend.

The 30th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Ram Pasture is scheduled for Friday, December 5. The event will begin with musical performances at 6:30 pm, and culminate with the tree lighting at 7, followed by caroling, hot chocolate, and visits with Santa and Mrs Claus.

  • Two Trees To Shine In Sandy Hook Center

Strands of green and white decorative LED bulbs sat coiled on the grass at 2 Riverside Road on Wednesday. With several strands already wound through branches of a new 32-foot Norway spruce standing there, Public Works employee Jeff Thomas stepped out in the rain to prep the tree for its second year of casting festive light across Sandy Hook Center.

  • Tonight: All Lit Roads Will Lead To Ram Pasture

Residents are reminded that the 29th Annual Ram Pasture Tree Lighting Ceremony will be tonight. Entertainment will begin by 6:30, and First Selectman Pat Llodra will light the tree at 7 pm.

  • Sandy Hook Tree Lighting Was A Double Success!

    To the Editor:

On behalf of The Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP), I would like to thank all who attended our 12th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting.  This year, the Sandy Hook community gathered to light our traditional tree, and then joined together in lighting Sandy Hook’s new tree just across the street!  From the snow flurries outside Sandy Hook Hair Co. to 3D glasses, from Santa’s visit to face painting, it was a festive night in Sandy Hook with our biggest crowd ever!

  • Help Light Up The Season (Safely)

    To the Editor:

Soon the town festivities will begin with the lighting of the town Christmas trees and luminaria to excite and inspire us for the upcoming holiday season.

What began 29 years ago in the Ram Pasture with a few hundred people is now numbering into several thousands and the logistics of getting to the site often requires  creative planning for parking, walking and crossing busy roads as people hurry both to the event or home from work in their vehicles.

  • Holiday Celebration Will Be Twice As Bright In Sandy Hook

The annual holiday tree lighting in Sandy Hook Center will have an extra glow this year.
