• Swim Team Ends Regular Season With Victory At Masuk

    In its final meet of the regular season, Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team defeated host Masuk of Monroe, 92-83, on October 27. The Nighthawks, who were coming off a 96-83 loss at Brookfield, on October 23, finish the year with a 7-3 record. Now, they’ll prepare for the postseason, which begins with South-West Conference championship action in early November.

    Newtown Coach Zach Gauvin said his team swam well against a tough Brookfield team, which posted an 8-2 mark.

  • Nighthawk Laxmen Win Close Games Then Crush Masuk

    Newtown High School’s boys’ lacrosse team carried a five-game winning streak, and an 8-2 overall record, into a scheduled May 7 visit to New Fairfield, at 4 pm. The winning ways have included a trio of nail-biting one-goal contests, including two this past week.

    Matt Meyers played a role in each goal the Nighthawks scored against visiting New Milford, on April 30. And it was just enough. Meyers registered four goals and assisted on four others in an 8-7 win over Newtown’s South-West Conference rivals.

  • Dramatic Win For Boys’ Booters In Tourney Opener

    The second-seeded Newtown High School boys’ soccer team, following 100 minutes of scoreless soccer, including a pair of ten-minute overtimes, prevailed in a round of penalty kicks to defeat visiting and seventh-seeded Masuk of Monroe 1-0 (4-2 in PKs) in a thrilling South-West Conference Tournament quarterfinal round game under the lights at Blue & Gold Stadium on October 26.
