  • St Rose School Threat Prompts Lock-In Security Status

    School Superintendent Joseph Erardi, Jr, said in a prepared statement issued at 2:22 pm Friday, November 14 that, “Earlier this afternoon, St Rose School received a threatening call.”

    That school was placed on a “lock-in closed” status,” he said. The parochial school is located at 40 Church Hill Road.

    During such situations, visitors are not allowed on school grounds and all people in the school remain inside the building.

  • Police Lift Lock-In Security Status At Local Schools

    Police said at 3:15 pm on Friday, November 14, that security statuses put in place at three local schools have been lifted following their initial probe into a threat of harm made against St Rose School Friday afternoon.

    Police Sergeant Aaron Bahamonde said at 3:15 pm that a “lock-in closed” security status at St Rose School at 40 Church Hill Road has been lifted, as well as “lock-in open” statuses at the nearby Hawley School and Newtown Middle School.

  • Angel Of Hope Arrives At St Rose, Dedication Ceremony Planned

    Angels of Hope Inc’s website says their angels “serve as beacons of hope for those suffering from the emotional and physical absence of a child.”

    In October an Angel of Hope statue was delivered to Newtown. The angel has a face of a child and stands 4’ 3” with a wingspan of 5’ 2”. Inside its wing is written the word Hope.

  • Private Schools Deserve Better Public Security Measures

    To the Editor:

    As a Newtown taxpayer, who continues to see his taxes go up, I was dismayed when I learned that my child is not as important to the town as the kids going to the public school. It is my understanding that St Rose, and other private schools in Newtown, will not be given the same security measures due to it being a private school.
