Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team earned its biggest win of the campaign, a 3-1 (18-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-17) triumph over Weston, at home on October 6.

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-19) victory over visiting Bethel on September 19, then hosted and defeated New Milford 3-1 (19-.25, 25-11, 25-14, 25-16) on September 22, before blanking host Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-17) on September 24. With the wins, the Nighthawks improved to 5-2 overall.

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team posted a record of 2-2 through its first four matches of the season.
The new-look Nighthawks, who graduated a bulk of their regulars last year, opened the season with a tough test against Woodstock Academy on September 10, and fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 26-24). Kyle Dandrea had six kills and nine digs, and Tonya Tucker had three service aces to go along with nine digs.

There’s nothing like a good start for any team to build momentum. In volleyball, a sport in which teams get fresh start after start with restarts after sometimes dozens of points in as many as five games in a match, momentum shifts occur numerous times. It all begins with the serve, and that first hit is serving Newtown High School’s girls’ spikers well this fall.

Newtown High School’s volleyball team extended its winning streak to six with a trio of triumphs this past week. The Nighthawks improved to 7-2 overall with wins over Brookfield, New Milford, and Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport.

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team coasted to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-8, 25-21) win over visiting Notre Dame-Fairfield on September 23, improving to 4-2 overall.
Newtown Coach Tom Czaplinski has been able to get everybody plenty of playing time throughout the season. In fact, not only did all ten varsity team members get into the match against now 1-6 Notre Dame, but junior varsity call-up Jamie Calandro also earned some varsity time.
