Following a successful Community Connections gathering at Walnut Hill Community Church in Bethel just over a year ago where Newtowners and others affected by 12/14 met with dozens of groups and support agency representatives, organizers are planning another event locally for June 11.

The Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation, Inc. (Foundation) announced this week its approval of three new board members, and the ratification of a ten -year sunset plan, which formalizes the spending down of all available funds by December 2025.

As members of the Distribution Committee of the Sandy Hook School Support Fund, members of The Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation have the responsibility to solicit input from the public as to the ongoing needs of all of those who have been affected by the 12/14 tragedy.
Foundation members include Chairman Chris McDonnell, Vice Chair Joeline Wruck, Gavin Arneth, Dr Robert Bazuro, Jennifer Clark, Kevin Cragin, the Reverend Rob Morris, Scott Ruszczyk, Addie Sandler, Bob Schmidt, and Connie Sullivan.

As teachers headed back to school in Newtown this year they are better equipped to respond to specific students in need after participating in the first phase of Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training sponsored by The Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation, Inc.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is an internationally recognized, evidenced-based program that has been shown to save lives, expand knowledge of mental health and treatments, increase services provided, and reduce stigma associated with mental health challenges.

The Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation, Inc is soliciting proposals from qualified groups to support the expansion of public education and training to help those that come into contact with adults and young people in the Newtown community.
The foundation is seeking to identify, understand, and respond to signs of trauma, mental health concerns, and/or address barriers that keep those who need mental health services from accessing them.

The Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation has hired a part-time executive director, and has begun the process of identifying members of the community who might serve on a distribution committee to examine needs in the community resulting from the tragedy of 12/14. The foundation has been charged with overseeing the donations received for and disbursed from The Sandy Hook School Support Fund.
