  • Ready For Lift-Off, 2015-16 School Year Begins

    Head O’ Meadow students were led off their buses to the school on Thursday, August 27, for the first day of the 2015-16 school year.

    Inside the school teachers and staff waited to greet the students, and near the entrance physical education teachers Steve Dreger and Alex Amaru shared high-fives with students.

    Mr Amaru, who is new to the school, welcomed the students with a special, “It’s my first day, too!”

    “Welcome back everybody!” Principal Barbara Gasparine said, smiling as students stepped off a bus.

    Anxiety about the first day of school is not limited to kindergarteners and children starting a new school. Younger children, even those with a year or two of school behind them, may experience a new or repeat bout of separation anxiety, and children of any age are often apprehensive about the unknown: a new teacher, new classmates and new academic challenges.

    Students across the district stepped onto buses for the first time of the 2013-14 school year Tuesday, August 27, while teachers and school staff waited to welcome them.

    “By all reports, people were exceedingly pleased,” said Interim Superintendent of Schools John Reed on Wednesday, in a video interview with The Bee.

    Students across the district stepped onto buses for the first time of the 2013-14 school year Tuesday, August 27, while teachers and school staff waited to welcome them.

    At Head O’ Meadow Elementary School, school faculty and staff waited inside the school’s main entrance, at the ready to offer greetings and assistance to classrooms.

    “Welcome back to school,” one staff member said as students stepped off the first round of buses at the school.
