The Fourth Annual Newtown Arts Festival opened last Friday with William Inge’s classic theater piece, Bus Stop. Celebrating 80 years of community theater, The Town Players of Newtown are continuing their tradition of producing quality work that excels in every way.

Town Players of Newtown announces auditions for Bus Stop by William Inge, to be conducted on Monday and Tuesday, June 29-30, 7-9 pm each night.
A busload of passengers from Kansas City seek shelter at a roadside diner during a snowstorm, finding respite from the storm as well as friendship and romance.
Auditions will take place at The Little Theatre, 18 Orchard Hill Road. Brian DeToma of Danbury will direct.

To the Editor:
Every day I drive to work and pass a neighborhood road. It’s a short dead end road and my drive time is such that I see kids waiting for the school bus at the corner. Actually, I don’t see the kids. What I see are four or five large SUV’s parked in a row, engines idling. The kids are inside the cars with their mom or dad. It gets me thinking. And what I think is that there are about four things wrong with that picture:

The first day of school is one of my favorite days each year. It is so full of promise, and my wish is that promise is fulfilled this year. While I would love to be able to make it around to each bus stop to take photos of the town’s smiling (or shaking in their boots) students on Tuesday, August 27, I am only one cat. However, you can share your first day of school photos with The Bee, to run either in print or in a slideshow online.
