Ken Fay, an elder at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newtown, found himself in an unexpected and thrilling situation on June 7: being applauded by former Star Trek star and well-known actor Leonard Nimoy. Both men were at the New England Emmy Awards presentation at the Copley Plaza in Boston, recipients of what was a first for both of them, an Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Does Newtown have the most polite drivers? We’ll soon find out. NHS Principal Charles Dumais announced this week that the high school will be running a “traffic experiment” the mornings of November 25, November 26, and November 27. The school has coordinated the experiment with the Newtown Police Department, Newtown High School Security, and All-Star Transportation, according to Mr Dumais. During those mornings there will be NO traffic control officer in place.

Newtown Kindness will be hosting a Therapy/Comfort Dog Walk-A-Thon this Saturday, November 2. The organization received so much support that registration hass been closed to any further people who wish to participate.
The walk will take place on from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm at the Fairfield Hills campus.

In the month of August, the Sandy Hook Promise organized a visit by staff members and Therapy Dogs from the Colorado-based Camp Bow Wow.
This organization, which specializes in training therapy and comfort dogs, contacted us and volunteered helping our town deal with the aftermath of December 2012.

Five Scout’s Angels service dogs wagged their tails outside The Villa restaurant Tuesday afternoon, August 13. They watched as people crossed the parking lot. The dogs and handlers, visiting Newtown from Denver to bring comfort to the community, soon met guests at an outdoor patio.

Christ The King Lutheran Church, at 85 Mount Pleasant Road in Newtown, will be hosting a retriever reunion of sorts on Saturday, August 31. From 10 am until 1 pm, the Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dogs will be returning, just in time for the Annual Newtown Labor Day Parade.
Everyone is invited to this family friendly, furry, and free event being hosted by the church. The event will serve as a kickoff to Newtown Comfort, Christ the King’s new K-9 Ministry.
