It was not just the 25 kids who took part in the History Camp last month at the (un-air-conditioned) Matthew Curtiss House on Main Street who sweltered during the heat wave. So did the teachers who served every day for the whole week. “They directed the making of lanterns, making and painting marbles and playing marble games, giving tours of the house and barn, and many other activities, as if were a delightful 70 degrees,” says a very impressed Gordon Williams.

Book Sale organizers tell me that nine boxes were already serving as place holders at Reed Intermediate School, Tuesday morning, July 9. The annual Book Sale sponsored by Friends of the C.H. Booth Library begins on Saturday, July 13, and runs through Wednesday, July 17. (You can find details at www.boothbooksale.org.) I guess there are some book lovers out there who truly believe that the early bird gets the worm.

Seussical: The Musical, one of Broadway’s most joyous musicals, written by the Tony Award-winning team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, will be presented at the Newtown High School this summer. The playwrights have reportedly “expressed their joy that this musical has been selected as the inaugural production of the 1214 Foundation,” according to a press release from the foundation.
