Newtown’s Republican First Selectman Pat Llodra, and her GOP running mate, Selectman Will Rodgers told The Bee June 10 that they would both be seeking reelection in November.
In a prepared statement, Mrs Llodra looked back on the day she first took office as the community’s top elected leader nearly six years ago, following a successful tenure on the Legislative Council.

Residents who had expected to vote on a local community center project at the upcoming budget referendum may not see that question come up until Election Day after the Board of Selectmen agreed to remove the local advisory question from the April 28 ballot.
By unanimous vote of the selectmen April 6, and on the recommendation of First Selectman Pat Llodra, the planned ballot question requesting to build a planned senior center and aquatic complex using a $15 million gift from General Electric will be put off.

With about a dozen residents on hand to represent the entire community, a brief town meeting February 17 sealed plans to demolish the home at 36 Yogananda Street, where 12/14 perpetrator Adam Lanza and his late mother Nancy resided. Following that meeting, the Board of Selectmen also acted to initiate foreclosure on a key commercial parcel on Church Hill Road adjacent to eastbound I-84.

Stating “We have a slate of excellent candidates,” Newtown Republican Town Committee Secretary Carey Schierloh released the names of residents seeking local office or reelection following an RTC caucus at Edmond Town Hall on Monday, July 22. Local Democrats plan to caucus July 23 and a list of the Town Committee’s nominations will be available following that meeting, set for 7 pm in the Edmond Town Hall gym.
