A Danbury man pleaded not guilty to eight criminal and motor vehicle charges on Monday, July 27, at his arraignment in Danbury Superior Court in connection with a Friday, July 24, incident at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village, 6 Queen Street.

At about 10 am on July 3, police responded to the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street after receiving a complaint that a shoplifting incident had occurred there.
Police said their investigation found that Yolanda Graciela Taveras, 57, of Gaylordsville had taken more than $178 worth of store merchandise without paying for it.

Police report that at about 2:48 pm on January 28, they received a complaint from Walgreens Pharmacy at 49 South Main Street, stating that a shoplifting incident had occurred, so they responded to investigate.
After receiving a description of the person who allegedly had stolen store merchandise and the sedan in which he was traveling, police briefly searched for the man, stopping the vehicle in question near 137 South Main Street, about 1.3 miles south of the pharmacy.

State police report that at about 3:35 am on January 18, they spotted motorist Melissa Toon, 35, of New Haven driving on eastbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 9 interchange, but failing to stay in her travel lane, so they stopped her to investigate.
State police said they arrested Toon on charges of driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and two vehicular-document charges.

After he learned that police held a warrant for his arrest, James Brown, 76, of Wolcott went to the police station about 11 am on May 16 and was charged with four offenses in connection with an incident that occurred last September, police said.
Police said that they charged Brown with engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, passing in a no-passing zone, and traveling unreasonably fast.
