  • Celebration Honored One Who Was Always Concerned With Human Rights

    A small group of women and men gathered in the Nunnawauk Meadows Community Building on March 7 to join a Human Rights Celebration hosted by the local Church Women United unit.

    While small in number, those in attendance appeared to enjoy celebrating the afternoon’s theme, “Journey Toward Peace.” They also honored the late Jeanette Mayer, who had been invited to keynote on Saturday afternoon but died unexpectedly eight days earlier.

    The program features interviews with prominent pastors, rabbis, imams, and other spiritual leaders of a variety of local faith communities. Viewers have an opportunity to learn more about Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Bahá’í, Unitarianism, or one of the many Christian communities, all in a nonthreatening manner.

  • How Many Have Helped You Balance On A Fence?

    To the Editor:

    Dag Hammarskjold, the late UN Secretary General, offered the world a great number of wise sayings, one of which caught my eye on a pastor’s desk in Raleigh, NC. It read “For all that has been, Thanks! For all that will be, Yes!” It is now “New Year 2014” and a turning point in our lives. It’s time to say “Thanks!” for the past and “Yes!” to the future.
