As parents and guests stood forming a large circle outside at Housatonic Valley Waldorf School, students performed traditional Maypole and Morris & Sword dances on Friday, May 1.
The May Fair event is an annual one at the school, and it involves students, faculty, and staff all taking part by either dancing around the Maypole, playing songs on recorders, and/or performaning Morris & Sword dances.

A gathering of Housatonic Valley Waldorf School students, faculty, staff, family members, and other invited guests welcomed spring on Friday, May 2, with traditional Maypole, and Morris & Sword dances.
All grade level students at the school began the event, an annual tradition, by performing the song “Hal ‘n Tow,” according to Patricia Campbell, who directed the students and acted as the events announcer, while dancing.

“May Fairs all over the world are very joyous celebrations,” said Patricia Campbell, who directed the students throughout the event. “It is a time for waking up the earth after winter so that crops will grow, the flowers will come out.”
