  • Management Takes Steps To Address Growing Pains At Nunnawauk Meadows

    Since opening in 1975 with 40 one-bedroom units, Nunnawauk Meadows has provided affordable housing for the elderly in Newtown. The community on Nunnawauk Road, off Mile Hill Road, has expanded more than once in the past 40 years, with current units now numbering 134. More than 150 residents enjoy the affordable housing, and many more would, said Nunnawauk Meadows Board of Directors President Richard Kovacs and Linda Manganaro, executive director of the facility since 2011, if there were more apartments.

  • A World Of Healing, ‘A Lot Of Good In The Community’

    The Newtown/Danbury unit of Church Women United joined World Community Day celebrations “going on internationally,” local unit president Darlene Jackson said on November 8, addressing those who gathered in the meeting room of C.H. Booth Library. Mrs Jackson offered the Welcome and Invocation last Saturday morning, saying Church Women United is “a group concerned with social justice, the environment, world peace, and looking to see if we can have some influence on any of that.”

    Residents of all ages have stepped up their efforts to be better people in the months since 12/14. There are concerted efforts to be a kinder, gentler town, and regular reminders to be nice to each other. One resident is among those who has been living a life of purposeful kindness and encouragement for more than a decade.

  • CWU Newtown/Danbury Planning Human Rights Celebration, Bible Study

    The Newtown/Danbury unit of Church Women United is planning its annual Human Rights Celebration.

    The theme of this year’s celebration, which will take place Saturday, March 8, at 10 am, at Newtown Congregational Church, is “Through God Our Hands Can Protect.”

    DANBURY — New Hope Baptist Church in Danbury will be “Swinging Wide the Doors of Hospitality” to members and friends of Church Women United of Newtown/Greater Danbury for the 2013 May Friendship Day Celebration, taking place Friday, May 10, at 12:30 pm.

    The ecumenical ladies and friends of both towns will be enjoying lunch, and a worship service with music and entertainment, as they celebrate this annual event.
