  • Celebration Honored One Who Was Always Concerned With Human Rights

    A small group of women and men gathered in the Nunnawauk Meadows Community Building on March 7 to join a Human Rights Celebration hosted by the local Church Women United unit.

    While small in number, those in attendance appeared to enjoy celebrating the afternoon’s theme, “Journey Toward Peace.” They also honored the late Jeanette Mayer, who had been invited to keynote on Saturday afternoon but died unexpectedly eight days earlier.

  • Change Of Plans For CWU Human Rights Celebration

    The annual Church Women United Human Rights Celebration, this year following the theme “Journey Toward Peace,” will be held in the Community Room at Nunnawauk Meadows on Saturday, March 7, from 1:30 to 3 pm.

    The guest speaker for the local celebration being hosted by the CWU/Newtown-Danbury unit will be Elizabeth Ricci.

  • A World Of Healing, ‘A Lot Of Good In The Community’

    The Newtown/Danbury unit of Church Women United joined World Community Day celebrations “going on internationally,” local unit president Darlene Jackson said on November 8, addressing those who gathered in the meeting room of C.H. Booth Library. Mrs Jackson offered the Welcome and Invocation last Saturday morning, saying Church Women United is “a group concerned with social justice, the environment, world peace, and looking to see if we can have some influence on any of that.”

  • Church Women United Planning May Friendship Day Celebration

    DANBURY — New Hope Baptist Church in Danbury will be “Swinging Wide the Doors of Hospitality” to members and friends of Church Women United of Newtown/Greater Danbury for the 2013 May Friendship Day Celebration, taking place Friday, May 10, at 12:30 pm.

    The ecumenical ladies and friends of both towns will be enjoying lunch, and a worship service with music and entertainment, as they celebrate this annual event.
