  • SHOP Presents Scholarship Funds To NSA

  • Scholarship Association Continuing Awards Gifted

    Newtown Scholarship Association (NSA) recently announced this year’s lineup of continuing aid scholarship recipients. A total of $301,500 was awarded to 89 students who are in their sophomore, junior, or senior year of college.

    In addition, 57 high school graduates were awarded $100,500 in June.

  • Newtown Scholarship Association Holds Annual Awards Reception

    Newtown Scholarships Association (NSA) held its Third Annual Awards Reception at The Dana-Holcombe House on Thursday, June 11.

    Students being awarded scholarships met with NSA members and school district educators and administration during the reception.

    According to the NSA, all of the awards are need based.

    NSA Awards Chairperson Stephanie Gaston said the NSA was able to award 58 scholarships for $105,000 this year to high school graduates.

  • Scholarship Association Gala March 7 At Waterview

    MONROE — The Betty Lou Osborne Memorial Scholarship Ball to benefit Newtown Scholarship Association will take place at The Waterview, Monroe, on March 7 starting at 6 pm.

    The event will feature dinner, dancing, raffles, and silent and live auctions. Special guest baseball legend Bobby Valentine will throw his support behind the NSA as the evening’s auctioneer.

  • SHOP Presents Donation To Newtown Scholarship Association

    SHOP (Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity) President Joe Hemingway presented Newtown Scholarship Association President Glenn Nanavaty with a donation of $1,000 on Thursday, July 17.

    The donation will go to fund SHOP’s third annual scholarship, and the Newtown Scholarship Association will choose the deserving recipient of the scholarship, who will be a Sandy Hook resident interested in pursuing a business major in college.

    Kevin Liniger,  a 2014 Newtown High School graduate, was the recipient of this year’s scholarship.

  • June 16 Friel Golf Scramble Will Benefit Scholarship Association; Few Openings Remain For Players

    The 22nd Annual Jack Friel Golf Scramble to benefit Newtown Scholarship Association (NSA) will be drawing the association’s supporters to the links on Monday, June 16.

    Registration will open at 11 am, lunch will be served at 11:30, and a shotgun golf start will be at 12:30.

  • Earth Day Draws A Crowd Despite Rain

    Morning rain soaked the start to Newtown’s seventh annual Earth Day Festival, but did not hold back a late-day crowd Saturday, April 26.

    “Yes, it was a great day,” said Connie Widmann, who helped organize this year’s event. Despite the day’s wet start, she said, “It was a wonderful turnout. As for the number of attendees, we felt that this was a great turn out for the weather at the start of the day.”

  • ‘Hope Springs Eternal:’ Scholarship Ball To Honor Late Advocate Of Continued Education

    On Saturday, March 22, Newtown Scholarship Association (NSA) and The Newtown Memorial Fund (NMF) will co-host The Betty Lou Osborne Memorial Scholarship Ball at The Waterview in Monroe. The evening’s theme is Hope Springs Eternal.

    Net proceeds from the ball will help NSA and NMF advance their shared mission to provide need-based college scholarships to young people from Newtown.

    The New Baroque Soloists, with special guest the soprano Susan Consoli, will perform “A Festive Holiday Concert of Chamber Music” at Trinity Episcopal Church on Friday, December 28.
