Town Public Works Director Fred Hurley slowed his “company car,” an aging town-owned minivan, down to a crawl as he weaved and bucked across seemingly endless clusters of bumps, heaves, and potholes that appear to take up more road surface than any stretch of unbroken asphalt covering streets in several local lakeside communities.

A group of Sandy Hook Elementary School teachers gaining national attention as they align themselves with fellow educators in support of gun violence prevention are scheduled to appear Sunday, December 7, on the first segment of CBS Sunday Morning With Charles Osgood. The program airs at 9 am.

The American Cancer Society has selected Mary Ann Jacob to serve as honorary chair and Jim Zarifis as honorary caregiver for this year’s Relay For Life of Newtown. The tenth Newtown event will begin during the afternoon of Saturday, May 31, and continue during the overnight, into Sunday, June 1, at Newtown High School.

Shortly after reviewing a letter to the editor in this week’s pre-budget vote edition of The Newtown Bee, Legislative Council Chair Mary Ann Jacob reached out hoping to clarify what she believes is a lingering misconception regarding the council’s ability to add funds back if the school and/or town proposals fail at referendum April 22.
