  • Newtown’s Hearts Of Hope Arrive In Boston

Volunteers from New York Life Insurance, which had subsidized the costs for the majority of hearts that were painted in Newtown, joined the group on May 15.

  • Gov Malloy Requesting Moment Of Silence This Afternoon In Honor Of Boston Tragedy

    HARTFORD — Governor Dannel P. Malloy, following a request by Massachusetts Governor Deval L. Patrick, has asked Connecticut residents to observe a moment of silence at 2:50 pm today in recognition of the victims of the bombing at the Boston Marathon last week.

  • Interfaith Prayer Vigil, Tonight At Trinity

    Newtown Interfaith Clergy Association will host a prayer vigil Sunday, April 21, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street.

    The vigil will begin at 7 pm.

    Along with prayers for the local community, the event will include prayers for the victims of Monday's bombings at the Boston Marathon in addition to those affected by the industrial fire and explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas, on Wednesday.

    All are welcome. 

  • Support Center, Synagogue Open To Those Retraumatized By Boston Incident

    In response to the April 15 bombing incident in Boston, the Town of Newtown established a temporary support center at Cyrenius Booth Library, 25 Main Street. That support center is further extending its hours of operation through the weekend for community members to come for support, guidance, or simply to be with one another, according to Health District Director Donna Culbert.

    The library support center will be open Friday, April 19, from 11 am to 5 pm, as well as Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 pm.

    What was supposed to be an avenue for Newtown runners to help in the healing process following the tragic events of 12/14, their participation in the Boston Marathon on April 15 turned out to open up even more wounds. At the same time, however, just as Newtown community members have come together to make something positive out of a negative circumstance before, they plan to do it again.
