  • I-84 Dual Bridge Replacement Project Continuing In Riverside

Workers this week continued demolition/construction on the $6 million project to replace the two dual-lane Interstate 84 bridges that pass over Center Street in the Riverside section of Sandy Hook.

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) recently created a “lane shift” on both the westbound and eastbound lanes of I-84 in the work area, allowing the second phase of the project to begin.

  • Annoying and Dangerous

    To the Editor:

I am wondering what the thought process was which had two temporary traffic lights installed in the Underhill Road area on Wednesday. Center Street is now closed to through traffic due to bridge construction on I-84, and local residents must travel the “long” way through Underhill Road to Alpine Drive, and back.

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) will be shifting the lanes of traffic flow on the two Interstate-84 bridges which cross above Center Street in the Riverside section of Sandy Hook.

The construction work required to shift the location of traffic flow on the two 100-foot-long bridges is scheduled to start on Sunday, June 2, and continue to Friday, June 21. The parallel bridges lie about 90 feet apart from one another.

  • I-84 Bridge Reconstruction Plans Delayed

State plans to shift the travel lanes on two Interstate-84 bridges, which cross above Center Street in the Riverside section of Sandy Hook, in preparation for a two-year dual bridge reconstruction project have been delayed for technical reasons, according to a state Department of Transportation (DOT) spokesman.

DOT spokesman Kevin Nursick said this week that state officials are reviewing an issue concerning eastbound I-84’s existing bridge pavement geometry that must be resolved before a lane shift could be created on that bridge.
