Motorists traveling in both directions on Interstate 84 in Newtown on the morning of Monday, June 8, encountered extensive travel delays following serious motor vehicle accidents that occurred on both sides of the highway.
That traffic congestion spilled over onto local roads during the morning commute, as motorists either sought alternate routes or were directed by state police to detours off the highway.

As part of the continuing construction project to replace the dual two-lane Interstate 84 bridges that cross above Center Street in the Riverside section of Sandy Hook, the state plans to make some physical changes at the construction site on westbound I-84 overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
That construction zone is located along I-84 in the area between the Rochambeau Bridge over Lake Zoar and the I-84 overpass above Alpine Road.

Workers this week continued demolition/construction on the $6 million project to replace the two dual-lane Interstate 84 bridges that pass over Center Street in the Riverside section of Sandy Hook.
The state Department of Transportation (DOT) recently created a “lane shift” on both the westbound and eastbound lanes of I-84 in the work area, allowing the second phase of the project to begin.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that traffic will be shifted on Interstate 84 to rehabilitate the bridges over Center Street in Newtown. The shifts on Interstate 84 are scheduled for Tuesday night, June 10, 2014 for I-84 eastbound and Thursday, June 12 for I-84 westbound.

Evergreen tree plantings intended to improve aesthetics will now be included as part of an ongoing Interstate 84 dual-bridge replacement project in the Sandy Hook section.
State Representative Mitch Bolinsky (R-106) in a statement on January 22 said that “noise mitigation” and a permanent safety barrier will be part of the project where I-84 crosses over Center Street in the Riverside section.

A group of residents from the Riverside Road area of Sandy Hook gathered around Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner James P. Redeker, State Representative Mitch Bolinsky, and First Selectman Pat Llodra on Friday, October 11. Huddled in a circle near Center Street, residents voiced concerns about highway noise pollution and other related issues.
Mrs Llodra said the meeting was a way to address the quality of life in the area.

The New York State Department of Transportation is replacing two bridges carrying Interstate 84 over Dingle Ridge Road in Southeast, N.Y. The work is being accelerated to minimize traffic impacts, but will require the interstate to be closed in that area during two upcoming weekends.
Traffic delays are anticipated.
The weekend of September 21-22, I-84 West will be closed at Exit 1 in Connecticut, and directed back onto I-84 at Exit 20 in Southeast.

State police report that extended travel delays on Interstate 84 that occurred through the area on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 21, were caused by a police investigation into an apparent suicide that happened on westbound I-84, near Exit 5 in Danbury.
State police said they received reports that a 52-year-old man had been spotted walking eastbound against the flow of westbound traffic on I-84 at about 12:45 pm, after which the man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer truck.

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) advises that normal dual-lane traffic flowing on eastbound Interstate 84 between Exits 11 and 13 will be reduced to one lane of traffic on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week from 9 am to 3 pm, each day, to allow certain construction to proceed on an I-84 bridge replacement project.
The left lane on eastbound I-84 in that area will be closed during those periods.
