Newtown Kindness will be hosting a Therapy/Comfort Dog Walk-A-Thon this Saturday, November 2. The organization received so much support that registration hass been closed to any further people who wish to participate.
The walk will take place on from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm at the Fairfield Hills campus.

Get out your flags, slice the watermelon, and fire up the grill — the Fourth of July is just over the horizon. And as exciting as fireworks can be, the Connecticut Department of Safety reminds us that the only legal fireworks items in Connecticut are sparklers. Even the popular novelty items such as party poppers, snakes, smoke devices, and other things that emit a flame are not legal for private use in Connecticut. So have fun, and be safe, not sorry.

CBS News out of Manitoba, Canada, reports that singer Harry Connick, Jr, has written a song especially for Ana Marquez-Greene. “Love Wins” is the song on Harry’s new CD, written in memory of 6-year-old Ana, who died 12/14. Ana’s dad, Jimmy, is a member of Connick’s band.

More than 70 therapy dog teams who have been in the community for months will gather at Fairfield Hills for A Day of Thanks to the Newtown Therapy Dogs, hosted by Newtown Veterinary Specialists, on Saturday, June 22, from 10 am to noon.
This event is about learning their stories, taking some pictures, seeing the dogs, and offering heartfelt thanks for all they have done over the past six months.

Therapy Dogs International Chapter 268 held its first meeting in Newtown on Tuesday, February 26, after receiving permission from Therapy Dogs International (TDI) to create a local chapter. TDI Chapter 268, currently with 41 members, is the only TDI chapter in Connecticut.

In light of what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, several agencies are be offering open forums for parents, caregivers, nd educators on how to help children and their families. Other organizations will be offering special programs to help children and adults work though what they are thinking and feeling. Residents are reminded that all of Newtown’s clergy have opened their doors for those who are seeking spiritual guidance, whether or not one is a regular attendee of any house of worship.
