WEST HARTFORD — Hoping to re-energize pro-gun safety efforts on Capitol Hill, President Obama visited Connecticut on Monday, using this state's sweeping new reforms as a catalyst.
The president told an audience of thousands that packed the University of Hartford’s Sports Center that gun safety advocates must speak loudly — and immediately — if substantive federal legislation is to have any chance.

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama is planning a trip to Connecticut April 8 to step up the pressure on a reluctant Congress to pass gun control legislation.
The president is scheduled to speak at the University of Hartford, a White House official said Tuesday on condition of anonymity since the trip had not yet been officially announced. Families of those killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on 12/14 are being invited to attend.
