  • River Walk Condo Proposal Draws Mixed Response

    While members of the local business community are voicing strong support for the construction of a condominium complex proposed for Sandy Hook Center, some Sandy Hook residents continue to urge that the developer significantly cut the number of dwellings proposed, although he has already scaled down the project.

  • Agency Finds Condo Complex Won’t Threaten Aquifer

    The Aquifer Protection Agency (APA) this week endorsed an aquifer protection planning report for the 74-unit River Walk at Sandy Hook Village condominium complex, which is proposed for the west side of Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center.

    At a special meeting on the morning of July 28, the five APA members who were present unanimously decided that the project proposed for an 11.8-acre site at #10 through #22 Washington Avenue would have no significant adverse effects on the underlying Pootatuck Aquifer.

  • River Walk Multifamily Proposal Gains Approval For Sewers

    The Water & Sewer Authority (WSA) has given preliminary approval for municipal sanitary sewer service to The River Walk at Sandy Hook Village, a 74-unit condominium complex proposed for Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center.

    WSA members granted the preliminary sewer approval to local builder/developer Michael Burton at a June 11 meeting, following their review of technical information on the project at several WSA sessions.

    Last week the Inland Wetlands Commission approved the River Walk Development in Sandy Hook. This project, brought forward by Michael Burton, will bring significant development to property abutting the banks of the Pootatuck River, a portion of which is a Class 1 Wild Trout Management Area.

    Following a third public hearing on a proposal to construct 74 condominium units on the west side of Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center, the Inland Wetlands Commission (IWC) on May 27 unanimously approved a wetlands/watercourses protection permit for the project known as The River Walk at Sandy Hook Village.

  • Environmental Review Of River Walk Project Continues

    Inland Wetlands Commission (IWC) members are continuing their review of the environmental aspects of The River Walk At Sandy Hook Village, a 74-unit housing complex proposed for the west side of Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center, near the Pootatuck River.

    IWC members held the second installment of a public hearing on the application on May 13. The applicant is seeking a wetlands/watercourses protection permit from the IWC.

    Inland Wetlands Commission (IWC) members are reviewing the environmental aspects of The River Walk At Sandy Hook Village, a 74-unit housing complex proposed for the west side of Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center, near the Pootatuck River.

    The IWC opened a public hearing on the application on April 22 in considering local developer/builder Michael Burton’s request for a wetlands/watercourses protection permit for the project.

  • WSA Reviews Sewer Request For Sandy Hook Center Housing Plan

    Water & Sewer Authority (WSA) members are reviewing technical information and have requested  more data from a local developer/builder who is seeking sewer service for a 74-unit housing complex proposed for the west side of Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center.

    On April 9, WSA members opened a public hearing on applicant Michael Burton’s request for 9,250 gallons of daily sewage treatment capacity for The River Walk at Sandy Hook Village, which is proposed for an 11.8-acre site at 10 through 22 Washington Avenue.

  • River Walk Wetlands Hearing Set For April 22; Sewer Service Application To Be Reviewed April 9

    The Inland Wetlands Commission (IWC) has scheduled a public hearing for later this month on a developer’s application to construct a 74-unit housing complex on Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center.

    At a March 30 meeting, IWC members agreed to hold a hearing on the proposal known as The River Walk at Sandy Hook Village at 7:30 pm, on Wednesday, April 22, at Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street.

  • River Walk Sewer Hearing Rescheduled To April 9

    The Water & Sewer Authority (WSA) has postponed a public hearing on a 74-unit multifamily housing complex proposed for Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center, which initially had been scheduled for Wednesday, April 1.

    The WSA public hearing on local developer/builder Michael Burton’s request for sanitary sewer service for the project has been rescheduled to 7 pm on Thursday, April 9, at the sewage treatment plant office building at 24 Commerce Road.
