As the number of remaining seats dwindles, organizers of the July 27 Great Newtown Reunion are urging those interested in attending, and anyone who reserved tickets to complete their purchases so final headcounts can be provided to vendors, catering, and security officials. No tickets will be sold at the gate.

I may be a bit behind the times, or felines, but I just learned this week that cat cafes are a popular Japanese hang out spot where caffeine aficionados can enjoy their favorite beverage in the presence of cats. I haven’t been able to find one in Connecticut, but if one was to open up in Newtown, you know who would be its first customer!

Agreements have been reached among members of the Great Newtown Reunion Committee, Hook & Ladder Fire Company No. 1, and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, with each of the fire companies heading up separate catering responsibilities for the gathering July 27 at Fairfield Hills.

The organizing committee for the Great Newtown Reunion, billed as an “all-classes inclusive” homecoming welcoming anyone ever involved with the local public or private school system, will be held on the campus of Fairfield Hills.
The site has already proven to be viable and accessible for events including a town arts festival, the town’s tercentennial celebration, the annual Relays For Life, and numerous other community events.

The excitement bubbling among three organizers of this summer’s Great Newtown Reunion was palpable before they even reached the front room of the Dana Holcomb House March 12. Wendy Lee Hewitt, who graduated Newtown High School in 1974, Sharon Dest Pacenka .representing the Class of ’77. and classmate Una Lucey settled into comfy armchairs for a chat with The Bee, eager to get the word out about the planned communitywide celebration set for July 27.
