  • HealingNewtown To Lose Its Storefront Space

    A venue that had opened its doors to help, to heal, and to make a home for donated artwork and sculptures in the wake of 12/14 may soon lose its storefront space.

    “I run on the notion that we may have only two weeks from today to leave,” said Robert Rabinowitz, a volunteer director for HealingNewtown, on May 1.

  • School Panel Facing High Emotions And A Delay On SHS Site Decision

    In the final minutes of a marathon five hour meeting May 3 that started with some raw and emotional input from Sandy Hook School staff, a Newtowner who played a key role on 12/14 sat down before a school building task force and described what he was witnessing.

    Gene Rosen, who found six students from the school in his neighboring driveway that fateful December morning and sheltered them until parents and police arrived, took a few moments to dial down his own emotions before he spoke.

    “I heard the agony of this process,” he said, his voice hitching.

  • Newtown Scholarship Association's Annual Golf Fundraiser To Honor First Selectman This Year

    Newtown Scholarship Association’s 21st Annual Jack Friel Memorial Golf Scramble will honor First Selectman and longtime Newtown resident Patricia Llodra. The scramble will take place on Monday, June 17, at two of Newtown’s own: Rock Ridge Country Club and Newtown Country Club.

    Cost is $200 per golfer, which includes lunch, golf, reception and prizes, and dinner at Rock Ridge. Early Bird foursome registration by May 1 is $720. For those who would like to attend dinner only, cost is $60 per person.
