    Authors and illustrators arrived in the school district on Friday, May 17, a day before a scheduled “Turning the Page, New Stories for Newtown” presentation for all Newtown residents at Newtown Middle School.

    Polling for the second round budget referendum is today at Newtown Middle School. Qualified residents are invited to cast ballots on separate town and school requests until 8 pm this evening.

  • Children’s Authors And Illustrators To Visit Newtown, May 17-18; Free Public Programs May 18

    “Reimagined Fairy Tales,” with Barbara McClintock and Jerry Pinkney, will open the panel discussions by children's authors and illustrators on Saturday, May 18, at Newtown Middle School. All Newtown residents are invited to attend any portion, or the full day, of free events.

  • NMS Student An Author, Thanks To Online Writing Course

    Through an online travel blogging and social media course called Wandering Educators, Kathryn Blanco is now a published author.

    Kathryn, an eighth grade student at Newtown Middle School, is listed along with her fellow students from the course as one of the authors of Journeys in Words: Chronicles of Avid Travelers Volume 1. She took the online course outside of her middle school classes after her father, Martin, discovered it.

  • NHS Graduation, NMS Moving Up, Dates Discussed

     Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson informed the Board of Education Tuesday, March 19, that the dates for the Newtown Middle School Moving Up Ceremony and the Newtown High School graduation have been set with Western Connecticut State University’s O’Neill Center.

    Also during the meeting, the school board moved to acknowledge the last day of school for the 2012-13 calendar be June 21, and that no days will be removed from the scheduled April break, if there are further school cancellations.

  • NMS Students Enter ‘History’

    Newtown Middle School seventh grade students Julia Doyle and Henry Petrillo recently entered into the History Day in Connecticut Contest when they presented their individual projects at Fairfield University on March 2.

    History Day in Connecticut is overseen by Connecticut’s Old State House and the Connecticut Historical Society, with funding from Connecticut Humanities, according to the contest’s website.

  • NMS To Present ‘The Wizard Of Oz’ This Weekend

    The Newtown Middle School production of The Wizard of Oz is set to take the stage March 15 through 17.

    Students have been busy after school preparing for the production. By Tuesday, March 5, the students were standing on a “yellow brick road” painted on the middle school stage as they rehearsed. And by Tuesday, March 12, the Wicked Witch of the West had her cackle perfected, Glinda the Good Witch had her sparkling pink dress set, and the ruby slippers were shined as Dorothy stepped on stage in them.

  • Newtown Middle School Preparing For ‘The Wizard Of Oz’

    The Newtown Middle School drama production of The Wizard of Oz is set to take the stage March 15 through 17, and a free senior citizens preview performance is scheduled for March 14.
