The wine at the Newtown Forest Association’s September 6 Sunset Wine Tasting Fundraiser must have been excellent. Even a sky full of lightening the latter part of the evening could not drive off the many supporters in attendance. Instead, the small room sheltering the auction donations became a full house, as did the nearby gazebo. Party on, foresters!

Flags were placed around the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Main Street on Friday, May 23, by members of Newtown Woman’s Club to honor past and present veterans.

Members of Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, are hoping residents will purchase American flags to benefit the veterans at Rocky Hill Veterans Home & Hospital and West Haven Veterans Hospital.
The flags, each with a ribbon attached naming the honoree, the branch of the military, and the date served or currently serving, can be purchased to honor family members and friends who have served or are serving in the military. The flags will be displayed at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Main Street for Memorial Day.

The Newtown Woman’s Club (GFWC), Inc will host an informal coffee/tea in the meeting room of C.H. Booth Library on Friday, April 11, beginning at 1 pm.
The club invites all women in Newtown who think they might have an interest or just a curiosity about the organization and its activities. The officers and chairpersons of the different committees will be present to explain their projects and answer questions.

“Amelia Earhart Lives” will be presented at 7 pm on Saturday, March 23, at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street.
The one-woman performance by Karen Tracy follows the life of the aviator from age 6 to her final flight.
Ms Tracy, the vice president of sales and service at the main branch of Newtown Savings Bank, has performed the part of Amelia Earhart hundreds of times for regional audiences.
Light refreshments will be served. Cost for the fundraiser, which is sponsored by Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc, is $20
