Senator Chris Murphy is calling for the Internal Revenue Service to open an investigation into a Nashville, Tenn. charity formed in the wake of 12/14 that has been unable to account for more than $70,000 it raised through marathon running.

On Monday, December 23, NYA Sports & Fitness Center will open the turf, courts and bounce house, slide and obstacle course to all children — whether residents of Newtown or surrounding towns — from kindergarten through grade 8.
From 8:30 am until 12:30 pm, parents can drop their children into this safe environment for playtime while getting those last minute holiday tasks done.
NYA staff will keep children busy with games and activities.
This is a $10 drop-off fee per child.

NYA Sports & Fitness Center will host its fifth Open Play Day on Friday, October 18. All Newtown children in grades 7-8 are invited to visit NYA between 3 and 4:30 pm; grades 5-6 will have open access from 4:30 to 6 pm; K-4 will have the facility from 6 to 7:30; and high school students will be welcomed from 7:30 until 9 pm.

PeaceBuilders, an initiative to bring kids from Newtown together in community service and fun activities, is preparing to launch on March 17. Helping kids become more resilient after the tragedy of 12/14 is a priority of the group.
PeaceBuilders will engage kids from 11 to 14 years old in a transformation process to help them become compassionate global citizens building a culture of peace.

The youth of Newtown got to see the softer side of the bruising, hard-hitting members of the Boston Bruins during the National Hockey League team’s visit to Newtown Youth Academy on February 18. The very next day, members of the University of Connecticut women’s basketball family came out for a fun-filled clinic at NYA. United Way served as the liaison between the Bruins and Huskies and community for these events.
