  • Applications Being Accepted For Sandy Hook Workers Assistance Fund

    Pursuant to Special Act 13-1, the Judicial Branch’s Office of Victim Services has begun accepting applications for the Sandy Hook Workers Assistance Program. The fund is intended to provide immediate financial help for emergency responders, medical and mental health professionals, and Sandy Hook Elementary School employees who suffered a mental or emotional impairment because of 12/14. 
    The General Assembly enacted the special act earlier this year; it became effective April 1.

  • Francine Wheeler To Give Presidential Weekly Address This Weekend

    Francine Wheeler will be giving the Weekly Address from The White House on Saturday, April 13, 2013, one day before the four-month anniversary of the Sandy Hook shootings.

    Mrs Wheeler and her husband, David, lost their son Ben, 6, on 12/14. They have another son, Nate. 

    White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced the President's decision to have Mrs Wheeler offer comments on April 13 during this afternoon's press briefing.

    "The President has asked Francine Wheeler .. to speak to the American people in this week's Weekly Address," he said.

  • ‘Glee’ May Be A Little Close To Home Tonight

    Tonight’s episode of Glee (9 pm, FOX-TV) may be a little much for some residents to stomach. Less than four months after Adam Lanza killed his mother in her bed, then shot his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School and shot to death 20 children and six faculty members, tonight’s episode will reportedly focus on a shooting in the hallways of William McKinley High School.

  • Newtown Donations Coordination Team Moves Forward

    The Newtown Donations Coordination Team is a town-sanctioned group established by First Selectman Patricia Llodra and tasked with cataloguing and seeing that the many “in kind” donations received by the town are presented to the intended recipients. The team was formed in February, in response to issues Town Tax Assessor Chris Kelsey encountered as he tried to catalogue physical items in a warehouse, and realized many non-tangible donations needed to be tracked.

  • "Building Resilience After Tragedy," For The Community, May 5

    Congregation Adath Israel of Newtown and the Newtown Interfaith Clergy Association will host a talk by Rabbi Seth and Sherri Mandell on Sunday, May 5 at 4:30 pm. Their talk, “Building Resilience After Tragedy — A Guide for the Individual and the Community,” will take place at Adath Israel, 115 Huntingtown Road.

    The bottom line is, it’s about how we honor the love. First, the love of those we have lost, then, the love for those who remain. Lincoln at Gettysburg said, “But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate, we can not consecrate, we can not hallow this ground.” Just as we cannot compensate for the lives of those who are gone to those who lost them. The loss is too great. Our work now is different.
