  • SHS Teachers Honored During 2013 Teacher Of The Year Rose Garden Ceremony

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Twelve years ago, Zillah High School in Washington state had no engineering classes. The science curriculum was lagging behind, and students had to go off campus to take technology classes.

Jeff Charbonneau, who returned to his hometown 11 years ago to teach at Zillah High, was determined to change that. And he did. Science enrollment is way up. Kids are graduating with college-level science credits. The school expects to have to hire more teachers now to meet the demand.

  • One Way Of Remembering

    To the Editor,

I have been away for a number of months, so I am unaware if this idea has been put forward. I note the beautiful job being done in Sandy Hook Center on a new stone wall. I was wondering if we could rename the wall as “The Sandy Hook Memorial Wall,” in recognition of all that so tragically lost their lives in the terrible events that occurred at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

  • Will It Ever End?

    To the Editor:

  • Are We Taking The Time To Heal?

    To the Editor:

As the parent of a student at Sandy Hook School December 14th was a horrific day.  I am blessed to have my child.

My sympathy and regret goes to the parents who lost a child that terrible morning.  I’m so sorry for your loss.

After the 14th I thought life would gradually improve.  Sadly, I’ve learned it gets worse before it gets better.  Emotional healing is a process, not an event.

  • How Soon They Forget

    To the Editor:

The New Haven Register editorial of April 11, 2013 notes that our “senior” US Senator, Mr Blumenthal, has used the Sandy Hook shootings, to ask for money for his next political campaign in 2016.

I find this action to be sickening, disturbing, and downright wrong, bit what do we expect from someone who lied about his military service to promote himself for higher public office?
