  • Peace Light To Be At Troop A Barracks Tuesday

    SOUTHBURY — The Catholic Committee on Scouting of The Diocese of Brooklyn and the Catholic Chaplain of JFK International Airport announce the 2014 arrival of the Peace Light from Bethlehem, Church of the Nativity, Jerusalem to the United States.

    The public is invited to visit Troop A barracks, 90 Lakeside Road in Southbury, on Tuesday, December 16. The Peace Light will be available between noon and 4 pm for those who wish to light their own candle or oil lamp.

  • Monsignor Weiss Receives Inaugural Caritas Award From Knights of Columbus

    Monsignor Robert Weiss, pastor of St Rose of Lima Church, was the first recipient of The Caritas Awards from The Knights of Columbus. The new award to recognize extraordinary works of charity and service was presented to Msgr Weis, and then to the St Virgilius Knights of Columbus Council 185, on August 6. From left is Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, Msgr Weiss, St Virgilius Knights of Columbus Grand Knight Timothy Haas, Archbishop William Lori, and Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

  • A Milestone For The Monsignor

    Monsignor Robert Weiss, pastor of St Rose of Lima Church, was honored at the 40th anniversary of his ordination at a Mass celebrated on Sunday, May 19, at the church. Numerous dignitaries spoke at the event, which was followed by a reception. Shown at the altar following the Mass, are, from left, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton, Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra, Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti, Monsignor Weiss, Governor Dannel Malloy, and US Senator Richard Blumenthal. 

  • Steve Bell In Concert At St Rose May 5

    The 9 am St Rose Folk Choir is hosting “An Evening of Story and Song with Steve Bell,” Sunday, May 5, at 7:30 pm.

    Mr Bell is “an excellent finger- style acoustic guitarist” and performer, said Larry Gardner, a member of the choir bringing Mr Bell to Newtown. The choir will be performing “at least three songs” with Mr Bell, according to Mr Gardner.
