After some discussion, the Public Building & Site Commission, during its special meeting on Wednesday, November 12, approved the Phase 4 documents for the Sandy Hook School construction project.
The approval paves the way for that portion of the project to go out to bid.

Following an hourlong briefing by members of the Sandy Hook School Design Team on July 8, members of the Public Building and Site Commission unanimously approved accepting construction plans and cost estimates, and voted to forward those documents to the state for final approval.
The PBSC is serving as the School Building Committee on behalf of the town.

The town Public Building & Site Commission (PBSC) has submitted a combined construction application for the new Sandy Hook Elementary School to the municipal land use agency, including an application to the Inland Wetlands Commission (IWC) and an application to the Planning & Zoning Commission (P&Z).
The project proposed for 12 Dickinson Drive would be constructed at the site of the former Sandy Hook School, which the town demolished in 2013 after the December 2012 massacre at the school.

Ahead of an expected June 5 town presentation on the plans for Sandy Hook Elementary School, representatives of Svigals + Partners unveiled some of the first renderings of the new building during a Public Building & Site and Board of Education joint meeting Wednesday, May 14.

Robert Mitchell, chairman of the Newtown Public Building and Site Commission (PBSC), said his panel heard and discussed new information regarding the ongoing remediation and demolition plans for Sandy Hook School during a meeting held on October 22. Speaking to The Newtown Bee following the meeting, Mr Mitchell said preliminary demolition was set to commence on Thursday, October 24.
