Newtown children up to age 9 are invited for Newtown Parks & Recreation’s annual Halloween Pizza Party at Dickinson Park.
This year’s party is scheduled for Thursday, October 24, from 4:30 until 6:15 pm. Requested donation is $1 per person, and attendees are also asked to bring a bag of candy for Main Street residents.
“There is no limit for Thursday – the more the merrier,” says Parks & Rec Assistant Director of Recreation RoseAnn Reggiano.

Loud cracking sounds came from the corner of Funspace at Dickinson Park playground on Thursday, October 10. But the slides, swings, and wooden playscape were empty. The playground was silent except for popping noises and the hum of hydraulics.

Town Parks and Recreation Director Amy Mangold and Parks and Recreation Commission Chariman Ed Marks reviewed 13 projects, currently underway or recently completed, with the Board of Selectmen on September 3.
Beginning with the Treadwell pool house, Ms Mangold told selectmen that the extensive renovation project was finished before pool opening. She said her staff was pleased with the work done by Pediment Construction Company.

Vanessa Trien and the Jumping Monkeys, a band based out of Boston, opened the new Summer Jam Concert Series at Dickinson Park on Wednesday afternoon. The free outdoor concert series hosted by Newtown Parks & Recreation will continue offering weekly concerts for families and children ages 10 and under until August 7.
Parks & Rec Hosting Two Full Concert Programs This Summer; New Daytime Series Launched For Children & FamiliesMonday, June 24, 2013
Newtown Parks & Recreation has concerts planned for residents and friends of all ages this summer. The department will be hosting its fifth annual Summer Concert Series as well as debuting a new Summer Jam Concert Series. The latter is a new daytime series for children and parents or guardians.
Concerts will be at Dickinson Park, on Elm Drive. Attendees should bring their own seating. Picnics are welcome, and attendees are expected to carry their own trash out with them. Concerts will move under the pavilion in the event of light rain.

What happened to the trees at Treadwell Park? Nineteen of the existing locust trees have been removed, “much to the shock of many who visited [Monday, April 15],” said Parks Superintendent Carl Samuelson. After hearing concerns that the trees were “gone forever,” he said, “It is really the start of a better solution,” adding, “We are putting back more [trees] than we took down.”

An accidental misspelling on a recently installed Dickinson Park sign will need to be corrected.
“It will have to be recast,” said Parks & Recreation Department Director Amy Mangold regarding a granite sign put in place late last week outside the A. Fenn Dickinson Memorial Park. Fenn has been carved as Finn on the sign.
